22 Ideas for the New Year (that are not resolutions)

22 Ideas for the New Year (that are not resolutions)

I can't believe the year has gone by so fast! Remember when you were a kid and time seemed to stand still? Now, there is never enough time.

In honor of the new year, and as I attempt to check some goals off my list, I've come up with some ideas to make the best of the new year. Some of them I hope to do and some I've done, which is good because I can already check them off my list.

1. Get Organized

Get Organized

I don't know about you, but if I don't physically write something down, I will never remember it. I know with devices and computers I can set reminders, but it never works. I have to write it down.

2. Count Your Blessings

I mean you should actually count your blessing and record them. Use a calendar or a planner to write down one thing a day, a week, or a month that you are truly grateful for or glad that it happened.

3. Stop Sharing So Much on Social Media

I feel better about my life...

My One Word for 2015 - Perspective

I'm not a fan of resolutions. Last year I picked three words - Laughter. Flourish. Thrive. I failed living up to them. It's hard to admit that I failed but it's true.

I laughed but not enough. I certainly don't feel like this is the year I flourished either, in fact, I'd say I wilted. And, I certainly did not thrive but survived, barely.

This year has been enlightening, but that is my perspective because I've learned that my truths are my own.

Perspective is such a funny thing. Everyone thinks theirs is right when telling a story or stating facts. Sometimes a fresh perspective can help expel doubts but other times perspective can cause more problems.

Perspective is just a point of view, another version of the story. War, peace, and even families are built and destroyed base on the prevailing perspective.
It's harder to change ones perspective once it's set. The story told so often that it's fact. Changing perspective means admitting you're wrong or someone else is right and that is never easy. But perspective can change with compromise, opening a heart to love, honest communication, hard work, and finding common ground. Forgiveness is a pretty big part of it too.

Un-Resolutions

I hate resolutions.  I mean, I really hate resolutions.  Nothing like setting yourself up for failure on the first day of the new year.  I love the idea but hate that I am willingly setting myself up for failure.  Sure, maybe if I was one of those driven people who loved a challenge I would rise to the occasion.  I am not one of those people.

I have decided instead of resolutions, I would make un-resolutions.  Yes, I made up a word and sure this is just semantics but it's my blog and I'll do what I want.  And what I want, is to unmake myself.

Don't get me wrong, I like myself, for the most part, but there is so much room for growth and isn't that what the resolutions are all about anyway?  You may wonder what the difference is and I will just redirect you to the previous paragraph - semantics.

Un-Resolutions

1.  Diet

This is on so many resolution lists.  I know this because after watching TV all day January 1st, there is nothing but diet commercials on the old boob tube.  I do need to stop eating like crap and I have to be diligent but, I. am. not. going. on. a. diet.

2. Quantity over Quality

It is not that I don't spend a lot of time with my kids I take them everywhere or nowhere with me.  It is usually just us.  But, I often wonder if the time we spend is truly quality time.

3. Procrastination

I will get to this one later.

4.  Fitness

I hate to be out of breath and sweaty.  The idea of loving to work out baffles me but I know it is something that must be done.  Baby steps (so I won't be to out of breathy and sweaty).

5. Organize

I am so unorganized - thoughts, blog, home.  The only place I am okay is at work but even than I have to wonder.  I will not resolve to be organized but to try to focus on what needs to be done.

Okay, so this is a list of resolutions but what can I do, it is the New Year and I am working towards putting me together.

Resolutions - yea or nay?
