Ode to Scary Mommy's Confessional

As a mom we are pulled in so many directions that it can be overwhelming and what’s worse is the pressure we put upon ourselves to be the perfect version of the mom that we have created in our minds.

It is easy to feel alone with that much pressure. Sure you can discuss it with girlfriends, mothers or spouses but we don’t always do it, call it fear of failure or need to be in control.

Of course, some of us have a blog and get that instant gratification of sharing our stories with the hope of connecting with like minded souls. It is because of my blog that I found Scary Mommy and in honor of her I am going to share my mommy confessions.

My Top 5 Scary Confessions

One

I will neglect my family to watch reruns of Doctor Who (or Torchwood).

Two

I have read Fifty Shades of Grey on the playground at a school sponsored event. Not sure which is the confession – the fact that I read Fifty Shades of Grey (the whole series) or that other parents now know that I read it.

Three

My three year old daughter occasionally calls people dumb ass and sometimes she is right so I don’t correct her.

Four

There have been nights, when the baby would not stop screaming and I could not soothe her that I had to stop myself from grabbing my keys and leaving.

Five

When my husband works over night shifts, I go to bed when the kids go to bed. It is as early as 8:00 PM when there is school or as late as 10:00 PM when I just don’t care. Of course, regardless of when I go to bed I am up three hours later and won’t go back to sleep until an hour before my alarm is do to go off.

Care to confess your scary mommy confession?

Don’t forget to enter to win tickets to see Scary Mommy in person on June 30 in Cleveland, OH. All proceeds of the event will go towards the Agnon School.

or Something.

The worst mother ever has struck again!

I have been awake since 2:00 am.  Well, except for like the hour nap from 5:00 to 6:00 am where in the middle of it I was woken by kindergartner shaking my iPod two millimeters away from face because it was a cool picture of Wall-E.  I hate Wall-E.

That is not why I am the worst mother (today at least).

When I finally did drag my happy ass out of bed to start the day...  Jamba Mama tried to follow and rolled right on to the floor.

She is fast for being chubby.

As I held her and cried at my inability to keep the Bébé safe, Goofy came to see what was wrong.  I was muttering how I was the worst mother and his reply.... "Yes, you are... or something."

As if to say, "maybe not the worse mother but you are something..." Sigh.  He said it in such a matter-of-fact way.  He must be right.

But then… I took a shower, drank some coffee, went to work, called the sitter to check on the Bébé and you know what… Not the worst mother.  Just one who needs more sleep.

It happened.

It happened... my sweet, darling, innocent little boy walked in on mommy and daddy doing the nasty and asked, "Can I watch Wall-e?"

It was about 3:00 AM and we are not sure just how long he was standing there but as sure as I was in the thralls of rapture he will be heading off to therapy when he remembers.  sigh.  I can not begin to tell you of the guilt I feel.  The Husband reassured me that it probably did not register with him...  until... I was watching TV, folding laundry and there was a couple making out.

My sweet, darling, innocent little boy looked at the TV and looked at me; back at the TV and said: Mom...  I think... I remember you and Daddy kissing.  Remember, the other night?  me: Yes, I remember... we were kissing.  sigh.  sdilb: I don't think you should do THAT anymore.  me: but, baby, what you saw was how mommies and daddies and ONLY mommies and daddies, show they love each other.  sdilb: no.  me: yes.  but only mommies and daddies.

My sweet, darling, innocent little boy looked at me with much doubt.

Trapped!

I have spent the entire weekend trapped with the kids, trying to keep them quiet so the Husband can sleep and I am driving myself insane.  I am looking forward to going to the grocery store!?!  I hate the grocery store lol.  I can not even motivated myself to clean the house.  I want to sit and watch TV and just be.  No noise.  Just a little silence (except for the TV).

Goofy has way too much energy and I can not send him outside today.  Not for lack of trying.  He just won't go and the Bebe wants to cuddle or walk.  I had to go to the bathroom and I told Goofy to watch the baby, don't let her put anything in her mouth.... next thing I know he is walking her past the bathroom door.

The plan is to make chili today.  Baked Potato Soup (again) tomorrow and maybe something else depending on what is on sale and what inspires me.
