Instagram Again Saturday - Looking Back at New Years

Instagram, Again Saturdays | Reliving Old Instagrams, One Saturday at a Time

New Years! Past and... past?

The last few years we celebrate the night with my sisters watching the Twilight Zone marathon but this year we stayed in, watched Firefly and All Hail King Julien on Netflix, and watched the ball drop from the comfort of our couch. One year, we'll go out again but until that happens I could not ask for a better night in with these guys!

How did you spend your New Years?

Un-Resolutions

I hate resolutions.  I mean, I really hate resolutions.  Nothing like setting yourself up for failure on the first day of the new year.  I love the idea but hate that I am willingly setting myself up for failure.  Sure, maybe if I was one of those driven people who loved a challenge I would rise to the occasion.  I am not one of those people.

I have decided instead of resolutions, I would make un-resolutions.  Yes, I made up a word and sure this is just semantics but it's my blog and I'll do what I want.  And what I want, is to unmake myself.

Don't get me wrong, I like myself, for the most part, but there is so much room for growth and isn't that what the resolutions are all about anyway?  You may wonder what the difference is and I will just redirect you to the previous paragraph - semantics.

Un-Resolutions

1.  Diet

This is on so many resolution lists.  I know this because after watching TV all day January 1st, there is nothing but diet commercials on the old boob tube.  I do need to stop eating like crap and I have to be diligent but, I. am. not. going. on. a. diet.

2. Quantity over Quality

It is not that I don't spend a lot of time with my kids I take them everywhere or nowhere with me.  It is usually just us.  But, I often wonder if the time we spend is truly quality time.

3. Procrastination

I will get to this one later.

4.  Fitness

I hate to be out of breath and sweaty.  The idea of loving to work out baffles me but I know it is something that must be done.  Baby steps (so I won't be to out of breathy and sweaty).

5. Organize

I am so unorganized - thoughts, blog, home.  The only place I am okay is at work but even than I have to wonder.  I will not resolve to be organized but to try to focus on what needs to be done.

Okay, so this is a list of resolutions but what can I do, it is the New Year and I am working towards putting me together.

Resolutions - yea or nay?

Party in Cleveland this New Years Old School at the PowerHouse

It seems like a lifetime ago when I use to spend most of my nights and plenty of days in  PowerHouse or over at Club 1148/Club Caliente.   In addition to working at the nightclub across the parking lot, I use to work for Improv, PowerPlay and TGI Firday's.  Not always at the same time, sometimes, but not all the time.  I spent more New Years there than I can remember (because I can't) and I have a whole lot of wonderful memories from that place.  It is bitter sweet that it is now the Greater Cleveland Aquarium.

I though those days were over until my good friend shared a Facebook link and guess where we will be this New Years!  Yep, one more chance to party like it was 1999.

Here's to 2012! Do More. Give More. Love More.

In a few short hours, it will be a new year and I must admit that New Years Eve has always been my favorite holiday to celebrate (except one year) despite working nearly every New Year's Eve of my adult life. In fact, it was not until I resigned myself to a "grown up" job that I had holidays off, much less the last day of the year off.

I worked in the hospitality industry, what can I say?

I worked all holidays because I could make the most money and it was usually mandatory. I don't miss it but I always had a place to be while I was single and didn't have a date. I was surrounded by friends and it certainly did not keep me from drinking (and usually something way out of my price range).

One year though, I will be in Times Square to see the ball drop. I want it to be a wildly romantic adventure, that ends with a kiss, in the middle of a gazillion people, just as the ball hits the new year.

I have not seen the movie New Year's Eve, but the trailers I have seen encompass all of the feelings that this day brings for me every single year. Only better, because I have not only found my one, but also my other ones to share all of the anticipation, the excitement, the mystery and the promise of a better year. It is magical and romantic, even in PJs. Expectations reach an all time high at the stroke of midnight and some how, some how the next year will be better then the last. And, it always is.

This year started okay, got better but took a turn around Thanksgiving. I will not let it dictate my new year. I will leave all negativity in 2011 and I will learn to forgive myself. I am blessed beyond words and have never been more grateful then I am at this moment.

So, here is to 2012, and to semi quote this movie I have never seen...

Do more.

Give more.

Love more.
